Birth of a Semi

When I start to be, a Caterpillar V12 engine nestled in me,
prepped and primed to the max
with the towing capacity for a pull
open those garage doors and let me free,
let others see my paint shine from wax,
I am almost ready once my tank's full of gas.

Here comes my mudflaps and my chrome lugnuts.
Here comes my wipers and my taillights,
My foghorn, my chrome bumper, my side mirrors,
Finish up my interior, I'll be ready soon
And make way on the highway, I have lights
to drive in rainy darkness with no moon.

Check me once, check me twice, check me thrice,
give me the checkmarks, give me the thumbs up
and say that I am "Good to go."
And after you do, bless me for good luck
so that I could work and make a driver the first buck.

Ah, now I have this, now I have that
I am ready
on six new tires that keep me steady.
The mechanics flash my lights
Honk my horn
Flip my switches on,
Put in mats
Check my oil
I am brand new
before my lengthy working toil.

A pat on the wheel, the last blessing I need
I see the door rise, the sunlight and world appear
So at the end of so many labor hours, my final exit draws near.
My engine gives out a mighty roar
then I inch slowly through the manufacture's door…
